Real-time and future population density estimations via API

The Population Density Data API provides developers with powerful tools to access real-time and future population density estimations for specific geographic areas. Utilizing historical anonymized data from network-connected devices, this API delivers accurate insights that can enhance decision-making across various sectors, including urban planning, marketing, and resource allocation.

Population Density Data - CAMARA Sandbox - Orange lab API is part of Network APIs by Orange under the CAMARA open-source project

*This sandboxed version is limited to a geographic area and a limited period time.

The network data is aggregated by Flux Vision, the solution developed by Orange to analyze population flows

Flux Vision platforms count and aggregate mobile devices based on their properties and observed behaviors, utilizing the signaling events exchanged with the cellular network. This process includes a weighting mechanism that
ensures the statistics are representative of the entire population, not just Orange subscribers. Its algorithms guarantee irreversible anonymization by deleting all personal data, making it impossible to identify individuals. These exclusive algorithms are the result of several years of research and comply with the recommendations of the CNIL and the GDPR.

Key benefits

Simplified integration

A simple API enables developers to easily incorporate population density population data into their applications, eliminating the necessity for custom implementations for each telecommunications operator. This streamlines the development process and shortens the time to market.

Access to network capability

The standardized API offers consistent access to a range of telecommunications capabilities, promoting uniformity and flexibility across various operators and markets. This approach enhances the user experience, ensuring reliability regardless of the telecommunications provider.

Anonymized information

The strong anonymization procedure safeguards individual privacy entirely, preventing the tracking of specific mobile devices or persons within the network data

Use cases

Urban Planning

Assist city planners in making informed decisions about infrastructure and resource allocation

Emergency Services

Help first responders allocate resources efficiently during emergencies by understanding population
distribution

Marketing strategies

Enable businesses to target their campaigns more effectively based on population density trends

Key features

  • Real-time data: Access current population density estimations to understand the dynamics of your target area
  • Future projections: Retrieve forecasts for population density, helping you plan for upcoming trends and changes
  • Historical insights: Leverage historical data to identify patterns and make informed predictions
  • Customizable queries: Specify geographic boundaries and timeframes to tailor the data to your needs
  • Anonymized data: Ensure privacy and compliance with data protection regulations through the use of anonymized information

How it works?

The API requester provides a geographical area and a period of time for wished population prediction data. In the response an array of population prediction records per geographical area (defined by approx 150*150 meters area) and 30 minutes time is provided. Each record provide a population density estimation.

With this API it is possible to draw population density map like this one below. On this diagram each little square has a resolution of 150 meters. The height & color of the bar represents the population density.
