APIs Playground and Developer Day at Orange OpenTech 2024

Published: February 6, 2025

Orange OpenTech welcomed developers to a deep dive into the world of Network APIs on November 28th, 2024. The event, hosted at Orange Gardens in Chatillon, France, buzzed with excitement as attendees explored the potential of APIs to reshape the future of network experiences.

APIs Playground: where innovation comes to life

The heart of the event was the APIs Playground, a dedicated space designed for discovery, inspiration, and collaboration. Here, attendees engaged with experts, witnessed cutting-edge demos, and participated in insightful mini-conferences on topics ranging from distribution strategies to best practices with AI.

Demonstrations: witnessing the power of Network APIs in action

Three compelling demos brought the potential of Network APIs to life:

Home QoD: revolutionizing home network experiences

Imagine a world where your home network adapts to your needs in real-time. The HOME QoD demo showcased how Orange leverages the power of APIs to make this vision a reality. Developed in collaboration with Domos, this solution allows users to adjust their home network’s quality of service on demand, prioritizing bandwidth for specific applications like video conferencing for a seamless user experience. This demo highlighted the potential of open-source initiatives like prplOS and Camara to drive innovation in home networking.

Flux Vision and Population Density Data: powering smarter cities

The Flux Vision and Population Density Data demo transported attendees to a future where smart cities leverage real-time insights to optimize urban mobility. This solution, developed by Orange, combines aggregated network data with the CAMARA open-source Population Density API to provide a dynamic view of population movement. This information can be used to improve public transportation, enhance safety at large events, and optimize last-mile delivery logistics. The demo showcased the potential of this technology to benefit businesses, government agencies, and citizens alike.

Orange & Nokia – Building on Network API Monetization Journey

Security took center stage in the Orange & Nokia demo, which showcased how Network APIs can be leveraged to create enterprise-grade solutions for surveillance and safety. This collaboration between Orange, Nokia, Radisys, and Innova Solutions demonstrated two key integrations:

  • Quality on Demand API: In emergency situations, this API prioritizes network resources for critical video surveillance streams, providing real-time situational awareness.
  • Location-based Notifications: This API leverages network data to send targeted alerts and facilitate evacuations, even in areas with limited GPS coverage. This powerful demonstration highlighted the potential of Network APIs to enhance security in various settings, from office buildings to public spaces.

Hackathon: unleashing developer creativity

The Orange Network APIs Hackathon brought together talented developers and entrepreneurs to create innovative solutions using Network APIs. The APIs Playground provided the perfect backdrop for the final pitch and award ceremony, where three finalist teams presented their groundbreaking ideas. The hackathon showcased the immense potential of Network APIs to inspire creativity and drive technological advancements.
