1. Fraud has changed scale
One of the strongest messages from the webinar was that fraud is no longer a marginal or occasional issue. As Jean-Pierre Lim explained, attacks are now:
“more industrialized, more automated, and more accessible.”
This means businesses need stronger and more adaptive ways to assess trust in real time.
2. The mobile number is now a critical trust asset
The phone number has become a central digital identifier. It is used in communication, login, onboarding, account recovery, and authentication.
As Alexandre Zermati said:
“The mobile phone is not just a communication channel. It has become an entry point to our digital lives.”
Because it sits at the center of so many digital journeys, it is both a target for fraudsters and a valuable source of trust signals.
3. SMS OTP alone is no longer enough
The webinar highlighted the growing limits of SMS OTP when used as a standalone authentication method. SIM swap, social engineering, and other fraud techniques have shown that a code sent by SMS is not always enough to establish trust.
Jean-Pierre Lim summed it up this way:
“The problem is no longer technological. It is human.”
This is why businesses need authentication methods that reduce reliance on user action when the risk level requires it.
4. Silent authentication is becoming a practical answer
A key theme of the webinar was the value of silent authentication.
Instead of asking users to wait for a code, read it, and type it back, APIs such as Number Verification can validate trust signals in the background, directly through the network.
This helps improve both:
- security, by using stronger and harder-to-fake signals,
- user experience, by reducing visible friction.
5. Trust should adapt to risk
Another major lesson from the webinar was that security should not be applied the same way to every user and every interaction.
The most effective model is often an adaptive one:
- use silent trust signals when confidence is high,
- escalate to stronger checks only when needed.
This approach helps protect legitimate users from unnecessary friction while improving fraud detection where risk is higher.
6. Real-world deployment already exists
The Pledg case study brought a concrete business perspective to the discussion.
For Robin Devals, the challenge is clear:
“For us, on the merchant side, the key battle is the fluidity of the journey.”
That is why silent authentication matters so much in payment and financing journeys. It offers a way to reinforce trust while protecting conversion.
