Voice API

Turn phone calls into secure, actionable voice data using Orange’s operator-grade programmable Voice API

Voice API: make voice programmable

A new chapter is opening for developers 🚀

Voice API gives applications and services direct access to programmable calling capabilities through Orange’s telecommunications infrastructure. Developers can create and manage inbound or outbound calls, orchestrate voice scenarios, connect participants, retrieve media files and integrate voice data into their own platforms.

Instead of handling the phone call as an isolated interaction, Voice API turns it into a reusable digital asset that can feed AI models, CRM systems, AI agents and business applications.

Built on Orange’s network capabilities, Voice API provides a secure and scalable foundation for creating new voice-enabled products, automating communication workflows and enriching existing applications.

Build complete voice-enabled solutions

Voice API can be used as the core foundation of a standalone programmable-voice solution. On its own, it can:

  • Create and manage outbound calls.
  • Handle calls received on allocated numbers.
  • Play audio files or generate speech.
  • Collect keypad and speech input.
  • Connect two callers or create conferences.
  • Change a voice scenario during a live call.
  • Receive call and conference status callbacks.
  • Start and monitor live transcription.
  • Store, retrieve and download supported media files.
  • Connect external bots, applications and business workflows.

It can also be combined with complementary Orange APIs to create broader trusted-communication solutions:

Voice API + Branded call

Help applications combine programmable voice interactions with a clearer and more trusted calling identity, subject to service availability and compatibility.

Voice API + Number Verification

Associate voice workflows with verified mobile-number signals to strengthen onboarding, authentication or sensitive customer journeys.

Voice API + fraud-prevention signals

Combine voice interactions with signals such as SIM Swap or identity-verification APIs to adapt security controls to the risk level of the transaction.

Voice API + SMS API

Use SMS as a separate communication channel for confirmations, links, alerts or post-call follow-up. SMS capabilities are provided through a dedicated API and are not part of Voice API itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Voice API is Orange’s programmable-voice interface. It enables authorised applications to create and manage calls, define voice scenarios, connect participants, receive call events and access supported media or transcription capabilities.

It is designed for developers, software vendors, system integrators and enterprises building voice-enabled applications, AI services, customer-service tools or automated communication workflows.

You need an Orange Voice API contract, application credentials, an authorised contract identifier and the host and base-path information associated with your environment.

Authentication may use OAuth 2.0 bearer tokens or an API key, depending on the operation and the configured environment. The approved authentication method must be confirmed for each deployment.

Yes. Applications can initiate outbound calls through the call resource and associate them with an OML voice scenario.

Yes. An allocated phone number can be associated with an inbound-call rule that executes an OML scenario.

Orange Markup Language is a JSON-based language used to define voice interactions such as playing prompts, collecting input, connecting calls, joining conferences or ending a call.

Yes. A connected call can be updated with a new OML scenario, allowing the application to adapt the interaction dynamically.

Yes. Voice API provides resources for creating conferences, adding connected participants, retrieving conference information and stopping a conference.

Voice API provides file-management capabilities for supported media and recordings made available by the platform. Long-term storage should normally be managed by the customer application.

Live transcription can be started and monitored when compatible speech-recognition capabilities and connectors are enabled for the contract.

No. Voice API provides the voice, call-control, media and supported transcription layer. AI analysis, summarisation and business actions are implemented by the customer or through separate AI services.

No. SMS is provided through a separate Orange SMS API. Voice API and SMS API can be combined within the same customer journey.

No. Voice API controls calls routed through a Voice API-managed number, scenario or conference. It does not currently document transparent recording of an ordinary mobile call made directly between two devices.

Yes. Depending on availability and eligibility, Voice API may be combined with identity, fraud-prevention, number-verification, branded-calling or messaging capabilities.

Temporary media may be made available through Voice API according to contract limits and retention settings. Customers should define their own compliant long-term storage and deletion policies.

The targeted launch window is September 2026, subject to final technical, operational and commercial validation.
