In a nutshell

Carrier lookup decorative image
The Carrier Lookup API enables real-time queries to retrieve the Network ID of a mobile phone number.

The Carrier Lookup API enables developers and service providers to determine the network code (MCC + MNC) for a given mobile phone number. This information is essential for applications requiring precise mobile network identification, such as network location services, direct carrier billing solutions, or telecommunications service discovery platforms.

This API operates:

  • on the basis of legitimate interest, meaning it may process relevant data when there is a valid business purpose, the processing is necessary, and individuals’ rights and interests are protected.
  • always alongside another API. For examples of APIs that can be used together with Carrier Lookup, refer to section Related APIs in this page.

Use cases

Network Identification for Service Personalization

An e-commerce application wants to offer payment options specific to the user’s mobile network. When users enter their phone number, the application calls the API. Based on the identified network, the app offers adapted payment options (direct billing, etc.)

Phone Number Validation

A SaaS platform wants to validate that phone numbers provided by users are valid and active. When a user registers a phone number, the application calls the API to verify the number exists:

  • If the API returns a Network ID, the number is valid
  • If the API returns 404, the number does not exist

Intelligent Call Routing

A call center wants to route calls to the correct department based on the caller’s mobile network. When a call arrives at the call center, the system identifies the caller’s number and the API is called. Based on the network, the call is routed to the appropriate department

Data Analysis and Reporting

A company analyzes usage patterns of its services by mobile network. The API is called for each user, so data is aggregated by Network ID, reports are generated showing usage by network and insights help optimize services by network.

Regulatory Compliance Management

A company must comply with regulations specific to each country/operator. By identifying the country and operator, this API ensures that appropriate compliance rules are applied and that data is processed according to local requirements
