Orange & Nokia – Incident response built on Network API journey
Published: December 17, 2024
In a world where connectivity is ubiquitous, network API monetization is becoming a strategic lever for operators and tech companies. Orange and Nokia have embraced this vision by partnering to co-develop an innovative solution for incident response that sets new standards in security and surveillance.
Presented by Alexandru Ciinaru from Orange and Jonathan Kline from Nokia during the recent Orange Open Tech event, this collaboration leverages the integration of two powerful network APIs to address the needs of businesses specializing in incident response.
An innovative two-pronged solution
Optimal video quality powered by Quality on Demand API
Developed in collaboration with Radisys, this API enables dynamic management of network quality. During critical incidents like a fire, it automatically prioritizes internal video surveillance streams to ensure optimal quality. Once the emergency is resolved, network connectivity returns to its normal state, ensuring intelligent and efficient resource usage.
Emergency Localization thanks to Device Location API
Co-developed with Innova Solutions, this API sends alert notifications to individuals near a danger zone, aiding in their evacuation. Its robust localization capability, even in the absence of reliable GPS, enhances its utility, particularly in complex or high-risk environments.
Tangible benefits for Businesses
These technologies primarily target companies specializing in the security of sensitive sites, offices, and warehouses. However, their potential extends to any organization aiming to protect its real estate assets and employees effectively. Key advantages include:
- Proactive incident response, minimizing human and material damage
- Enhanced surveillance, even under challenging network conditions
- Optimized evacuation and localization, improving overall on-site safety
A future driven by the API economy
This initiative perfectly illustrates the power of partnerships in the telecom ecosystem. Through strategic collaborations and cutting-edge technology, Orange and Nokia showcase how network APIs can evolve from a purely technical tool to a genuine value generator.
For businesses, this opens up endless opportunities: from API-based business models to solutions tailored to specific needs like security. This vision aligns with a global movement where Network as Code is becoming a reality, bridging the gap between technological innovation and real-world business needs.
Orange and Nokia are not merely demonstrating the technical feasibility of network APIs; they are transforming how these tools address real-world challenges. This approach could redefine how businesses tackle security and connectivity in a future dominated by the API economy.
